Protective structures from monuments are being dismantled in Kyiv. Work has begun near the monument to Lesya Ukrainka

Due to the increasing use of ballistic missiles, protective structures made of modules and sandbags have lost their effectiveness and no longer provide an adequate level of protection for monuments. In addition, the long time that monuments have been under such shelters is causing moisture to accumulate, ventilation to deteriorate, and natural materials (especially marble) to be destroyed.

Dismantling old protective structures will open access to the monuments to be regularly inspected and maintained. This will allow specialists to monitor the facilities’ technical condition, carry out preventive and restoration work in a timely manner, and ensure the monuments are preserved as well as possible in wartime conditions.
